Early Church Father's
JESUS IS GOD - NOT AN ANGEL
Jehovah's Witnesses teach that Jesus is NOT God, but Michael the Archangel, a created being, BY God!
The early church Father's disagree!
THE EPISTLE OF IGNATIUS
TO THE EPHESIANS
[ A.D. 30-107.]
Pg 114 Jesus is God!
For our God, Jesus Christ, was, according to the appointment of God, conceived in the womb by Mary, of the seed of David, but by the Holy Ghost.
Pg 115 God was manifested in the flesh
God Himself being manifested in human form for the renewal of eternal life.
JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES SAY THAT JESUS IS NOT RETURNING IN THE FLESH, BUT THAT HE HAS ALREADY RETURNED IN THE SPIRIT IN 1914.
Pg 172-3 Christ in the Flesh at resurrection and his return
For I know that after His resurrection also He was still possessed of flesh, and I believe that He is so now.
And thus was He, with the flesh, received up in their sight unto Him that sent Him, being with that same flesh to come again, accompanied by glory and power (THE EPISTLE OF IGNATIUS TO THE MAGESIANS)
1st Apology of Justin Martyr [A.D. 110-165.]
Pg 337 Ineffable (unpronouncable) name of God - Trinity in Baptism
and may obtain in the water the emission of sins formerly committed, there is pronounced over him who chooses to be born again, and has repented of his sins, the name of God the Father and Lord of the universe; he who leads to the laver the person that is to be washed calling him by this name alone. For no one can utter the name of the ineffable God; and if any one dare to say that there is a name, he raves with a hopeless madness. And this washing is called illumination, because they who learn these things are illuminated in their understandings. And in the name of Jesus Christ, who was crucified under Pontius Pilate, and in the name of the Holy Ghost, who through the prophets foretold all things about Jesus, he who is illuminated is washed.
2nd Apology of Justin Martyr [A.D. 110-165.]
(Letter to a Jew named Trypho)
Pg 351 No name for God the Father (Chapter 6)
But to the Father of all, who is unbegotten, there is no name given. For by whatever name He be called He has as His elder the person who gives Him the name. But these words, Father, and God, and Creator, and Lord, and Master, are not names, but appellations derived from His good deeds and functions.
Pg 598 The Body and Soul are NOT the same (CHAPTER 10)
The resurrection is a resurrection of the flesh which died. For the spirit dies not; the soul is in the body, and without a soul it cannot live. The body, when the soul forsakes it, is not. For the body is the house of the soul; and the soul the house of the spirit. These three, in all those who cherish a sincere hope and unquestioning faith in God, will be saved.
Pg 402 Jesus is God & Lord of Hosts (Jehovah Sabaoth Jer. 32:18)), the King of Glory (Jehovah see Psalms 24:7-10) (Chapter 36)
And I said, “As you wish, Trypho, I shall come to these proofs which you seek in the fitting place; but now you will permit me first to recount the prophecies, which I wish to do in order to prove that Christ is called both God and Lord of hosts,
Lift up your gates, ye rulers; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory.' Accordingly, it is shown that Solomon is not the Lord of hosts; but when our Christ rose from the dead and ascended to heaven, the rulers in heaven, under appointment of God, are commanded to open the gates of heaven, that He who is King of glory may enter in, and having ascended, may sit on the right hand of the Father until He make the enemies His footstool, (2nd Apology of Justin Martyr [A.D. 110-165.]
Irenaus
(120-202 AD)
Pg 654 John 1:1 Jesus IS God!
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God; the same was in the beginning with God.” Having first of all distinguished these three - God, the Beginning, and the Word - he again unites them, that he may exhibit the production of each of them, that is, of the Son and of the Word, and may at the same time show their union with one another, and with the Father. For “the beginning” is in the Father, and of the Father, while “the Word” is in the beginning, and of the beginning. Very properly, then, did he say, “In the beginning was the Word,” for He was in the Son; “and the Word was with God,” for He was the beginning; “and the Word was God,” of course, for that which is begotten of God is God.
JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES TEACH THAT THIS SCRIPTURE BELOW WAS A PARABLE, AND THAT WHEN WE DIE, WE KNOW NOTHING, BUT ARE ASLEEP. THEY TEACH THERE IS NO TORMENT IN HELL! Irenaus disagrees!
Pg 817 Rich man (named Dives) and Lazarus have memory of this world, was a true story, not a parable (Irenaus Chapter 34)
1. The Lord has taught with very great fullness, that souls not only continue to exist, not by passing from body to body, but that they preserve the same form [in their separate state] as the body had to which they were adapted, and that they remember the deeds which they did in this state of existence, and from which they have now ceased, - in that narrative which is recorded respecting the rich man and that Lazarus who found repose in the bosom of Abraham. In this account He states that Dives knew Lazarus after death, and Abraham in like manner, and that each one of these persons continued in his own proper position, and that [Dives] requested Lazarus to be sent to relieve him - [Lazarus], on whom he did not [formerly] bestow even the crumbs [which fell] from his table. [He tells us] also of the answer given by Abraham, who was acquainted not only with what respected himself, but Dives also, and who enjoined those who did not wish to come into that place of torment to believe Moses and the prophets, and to receive the preaching of Him who was to rise again from the dead. By these things, then, it is plainly declared that souls continue to exist that they do not pass from body to body, that they possess the form of a man, so that they may be recognized, and retain the memory of things in this world; ( Irenaus 120-202 AD)
Pg 892 Jesus is God
this is Christ, the Son of the living God. For I have shown from the Scriptures, that no one of the sons of Adam is as to everything, and absolutely, called God, or named Lord. But that He is Himself in His own right, beyond all men who ever lived, God, and Lord, and King Eternal, and the Incarnate Word, proclaimed by all the prophets, the apostles, and by the Spirit Himself ( Irenaus 120-202 AD)
Pg 896 Jesus is NOT an ANGEL, He is GOD!
4. Again, that it should not be a mere man who should save us, nor [one] without flesh - for the angels are without flesh - [the same prophet] announced, saying: “Neither an elder, nor angel, but the Lord Himself will save them because He loves them, and will spare them: He will Himself set them free.”
And that it is from that region which is towards the south of the inheritance of Judah that the Son of God shall come, who is God, and who was from Bethlehem, where the Lord was born [and] will send out His praise through all the earth, thus says the prophet Habakkuk: “God shall come from the south, and the Holy One from Mount, Effrem. His power covered the heavens over, and the earth is full of His praise. Before His face shall go forth the Word, and His feet shall advance in the plains.” Thus he indicates in clear terms that He is God, and that His advent was [to take place] in Bethlehem, and from Mount Effrem, which is towards the south of the inheritance, and that [He is] man. ( Irenaus 120-202 AD)
JESUS IS GOD
Pg 897
1. God, then, was made man, and the Lord did Himself save us, giving us the token of the Virgin. ( Irenaus 120-202 AD)
Isa 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD (Jehovah); and beside me there is no saviour.
Eusebius Pamphilus,
Bishop of Ceserea around 300 AD
An early church historian, Eusebius Pamphilus, Bishop of Ceserea around 300 AD, writes that Jesus raised those who were dead and took them to heaven with him!
"...How he humbled himself, and died, and lowered his divinity; what things, also he suffered from the Jews; how he was crucified, and descended into hell, (Hades) and burst the bars which had never yet been broken, and rose again, and also raised with himself the dead that had slept for ages. And how he descended alone, but ascended with a great multitude to his Father."
(Eusebius Pamphilus Ecclesiastical History, Book I, Chapter XIII )
