Not one time in the Greek New Testament did Jesus EVER use the name “Jehovah." The word was ALWAYS "Kurios" meaning "Lord." Jesus Himself was always expressed in the scriptures to be "Kurios." (See explanation by clicking Lord.)
Jesus has given the “born again” believer, a name in which the JW's have NO right to call God… “Abba, Father”!
Jer. 3:19 Septuagint says --"ye shall call me Father.”
Rom. 8:14-16 "as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God ..but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba, Father. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
Gal. 4:6 'and because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of HIS Son into your hearts, crying out Abba, Father.
John 5:18 The Jews sought to kill Jesus because He..."also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
The name Jesus came to reveal was Father! The name "Jehovah" does not appear in any New Testament Greek Text. And because Jesus called God "Father" the Jews wanted to kill Him. When you are "Born Again" by God, you become His Son and now you can call Him "Father" (see John 1:10-13)
Matt. 6:9 when Jesus taught the disciples how to pray He said “our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name “ He said "Father" not "Jehovah".
In John chapter 17, Jesus is praying to the Father and identifies Him as "Father”. In verse 6 Jesus said "I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me...” They already knew the Old Testament name "YHWH” so that is not new. The Name He made manifest is “Father”. By this name, and the use of it, the Jews were angry with Jesus and sought to kill Him.
Matt 23:9 Jesus said "moreover, do not call anyone your Father on earth, for one is your Father, the heavenly One.”
But no one can come to the FATHER except through Jesus Christ "I am the WAY, the Truth, and the LIFE, NO ONE comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6-7)
And Jesus said in verse 9 “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”
And in verse 21 Jesus said "...he that loves Me will be loved by My Father and I will plainly show Myself to him.”
SUMMARY: If you love Jesus, you will be loved by the Father and Jesus will show Himself to you. When you see Jesus, you will see the Father and the Father will give you the Spirit of adoption, the Spirit of Christ (the Holy Spirit which is also the Spirit of God; (Rom. 8:9) which cries out Abba, Father (see "Interfaith")
Jehovah's Witnesses SHOULD properly call God “Jehovah” since God is NOT their father! It is only proper for my neighbor to call my father “Mr. O'Connell”! But only I have the right to call him “Father - Dad!”
Only the born again believer, having been born of God by His Spirit, has the right to call Jehovah God … “Abba, Father”!
Section B. Says that it is “impossible to see God and live”. This is partly true and that is why we must come to His son Jesus, because only through Jesus can we see the Father and Know Him.
Those who saw God and Lived (Ex. 33:11, Gen. 18:1, 32:30, Judges 13:22-23, Isa. 6:1,5) Go to "Seeing God"
(John 14:9 KJV) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?
John 17:3 " this is eternal life, that they may Know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent" Know - Gr. "ginosko"- means to understand, to perceive, to know.
2 Cor. 4:4 Satan has blinded the minds of the unbeliever so they cannot see "...Christ, who is the Image of God" but for the believer (verse 6) God has illuminated our hearts "..with the glorious Knowledge of God by the face of Christ.”
SUMMARY: When we see Christ, we see God, we see the FATHER
1 John 2:23 “Everyone that denies the Son does not have the Father. He that confesses the Son has the Father also.”
“JEHOVAH: A mispronunciation (introduced by Christian Theologians, but almost entirely disregarded by the Jews) of the Hebrew “YHWH” the (ineffable) name of God.. This pronunciation is grammatically impossible.
The substitutions of `Adonay' and 'Elohim' for YHWH were devised to avoid the profanation of the Ineffable Name.
“Jehovah is generally held to have been the invention of Pope Leo X's confessor Peter Galatin (“De Areanis Catholicre Veritatis.” 1518)
SUMMARY: The word "Jehovah (according to the Jewish encyclopedia) was invented by the Catholic church in 1518. Jesus did not come to manifest a name the Jews already knew nor did He come to teach us how to pronounce “YHWH” correctly. Instead He came to give us THE Name "FATHER". For calling God 'FATHER', the Jews sought to kill Jesus(see "20. Jehovah, God") In other words, the name “Jehovah” cannot save you (Acts 4:10-12)
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
The word "Jehovah" and the word "Lord" in the New Testament of the New World Translation is the same Greek word "kurios”. See your interlinear and your concordance and look up these words and you will find that they are one and the same in the Greek. How then did the translators of the New World Translation decide where to translate the word “kurios” to be “Jehovah" in one place and then the same word "Kurios” to be "Lord' in another place, making Jesus "Lord" but not "Jehovah"? Jesus Christ Himself is identified throughout the New Testament as “Kurios” the same word that is translated by the Watchtower “Jehovah”! Yet they deny that Jesus is “Jehovah!”
NOT ONE time in the New Testament, does the tetragrammation of the divine name of God appear. It is ALWAYS the Greek word “Kurios.”
This fact is confirmed by the Watchtower itself as they write “But apart from [the use of “Jah” in “Hallelujah” in the book of Revelation], no ancient Greek manuscript that we possess today of the books from Matthew to Revelation contains God's name [the tetragrammation] in full.” The Divine Name That Will Endure (Brooklyn: Watchtower Bible and Tracts Society, 1997), electronic version.
In Appendix #1 of the NWT says they went to the Greek Septuagint and they found the Tetregrammation in the Hebrew for “YHWH”. Yet in my review of the Greek Septuagint, the word “Kurios" is used for EVERY Old Testament placement of the word “YHWH". Please check it for yourself, especially Isa. 61:1,2 which they reference. The word "YHWH" ( - Jehovah) is NOT in the Greek Septuagint. (The Septuagint is the Greek translation of the Old Testament used by the Greek speaking Jews and Christians in the days of Christ).
Here is an untouched, scanned copy of Isaiah 61:1-3 (the exact same verses the NWT referenced) from the Greek Septuagint. Notice the Greek word Kurios Kuriou (the second word shown in document below and again in line 4) NOT "YHWH" the tetragrammation as the Watchtower falsely claims. Why did the Watchtower lie?
Summary: “Kurios” In Greek means supreme In authority: God, Lord, master, Sir. This word is used for every case of "Jehovah." and "Lord" in the NWT and yet it is the same word. Yet, in every Biblical passage where the word Kurios refers to Jesus, the NWT translators rendered it “Lord”. But when the same word "Kurios" refers to God, they rendered it “Jehovah.” Doesn't this manipulation of God's word look like deception to you?
God's word prophetically fortold warnings about the Watchtower in 2 John 1:7
This is a clear contradiction by the Watchtower in an attempt to deny that Jesus is Jehovah God Himself!
The Watchtower would like for the student to believe that the early church fathers removed the Hebrew name of God from these ancient documents in a deliberate attempt to create an “apostate” church. It's an interesting charge to give to the very people who were tortured to death as martyrs for their faith in the name “Jesus Christ”.
This study is not an attempt to downplay the name “Jehovah” but rather to clarify this one fact… IT is the name of Jesus Christ, which the New Testament glorifies!
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.... Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
1 Cor. 1:2
Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
If "Lord" means "Jehovah", then what must YOU do to be saved?
