Sabbath "Forever"

Is the Sabbath a commandment of God which is to be kept “for ever”?   I will answer this question at the end of this page.

(Mat 5:18 KJV)  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

The Sabbath

(Exo 31:17 KJV) It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Did God command any other observances to be kept "for ever" ? Please take special notice to the words "for ever"!

The Passover (1st day & 7th day)

Note that this festival was given to Israel BEFORE they left Egypt. It was NOT the LAW of Moses and was Not given at Mt. Sinai. It was a holy day on both the 1st and 7th day which is Saturday and Sunday.

(Exo 12:14 KJV)  And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

(Exo 12:15 KJV)  Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

(Exo 12:16 KJV)  And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.

(Exo 12:17 KJV)  And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.

(1 Cor 5:7 KJV)  Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

(Heb 10:12 KJV)  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

Light of the Lamp

(Exo 27:20 KJV)  And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

(Exo 27:21 KJV) In the tabernacle of the congregation without the veil, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the LORD: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

Fulfilled in Christ

(John 8:12 KJV) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

(Rev 21:23 KJV)  And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Jesus will be the Light for ever!

The Priestly office

(Exo 28:41 KJV)  And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office.

(Exo 28:42 KJV)  And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:

(Exo 28:43 KJV)  And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.

Fulfilled in Christ

(Heb 6:20 KJV)  Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

(Heb 9:11 KJV)  But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

The Sacrifice

(Exo 29:20 KJV)  Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about.

(Exo 29:28 KJV)  And it shall be Aaron's and his sons' by a statute for ever from the children of Israel: for it is an heave offering: and it shall be an heave offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace offerings, even their heave offering unto the LORD.

(Heb 10:14 KJV)  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

The Feast of Tabernacles

Again, You shall see a holy day on the 1st day and also on the 8th day. THEY ARE BOTH A SABBATH to be celebrated FOREVER!  The 1st day and 8th day refer to a Sunday "Sabbath"!

(Lev 23:34 KJV)  Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.

(Lev 23:35 KJV)  On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

(Lev 23:36 KJV)  Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.

(Lev 23:39 KJV)  Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.

(Lev 23:40 KJV)  And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.

(Lev 23:41 KJV)  And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month.

(Heb 4:3 KJV)  For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

(Heb 4:4 KJV)  For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

(Heb 4:5 KJV)  And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

(Heb 4:10 KJV)  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

The answer to the question “Is the Sabbath a commandment of God which is to be kept “for ever”?

YES!

Every true Born Again believer that is "resting" in Jesus has kept the true Sabbath from the day of their salvation. It is NOT a day of the week, it's Jesus, who is the fulfillment of the eternal Sabbath (rest)!

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

As we see in the scriptures noted in this study, JESUS is the "Fulfillment" of ALL the "For Ever's" in scripture! Jesus IS our Sabbath, our "eternal rest"!   He is the Passover of unleavened (sinless) bread! He is the Light of the world, the High Priest,  the perfect Sacrifice, the Laver of Washing and the Feast of Tabernacles, dwelling in us!

(Mat 5:18 KJV)  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

(Luke 24:44-45)    And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. [45] Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

I pray that YOUR mind would be opened, that you may see JESUS, the fulfillment of ALL those things that were written, and that YOU may "ENTER the REST", by resting in Jesus!
